1975 XB Falcon GT Ford test Car

Conservation

This is a former Ford Falcon XB GT test car, brass test tag number XBG600 used by Ford Australia in Product Development in 1975.

In 1976 when King Hussein of Jorden was visiting Melbourne Don Dunoon an engineering manager at Ford of Australia, accompanied the King for a few laps of the Lara proving ground in this car. You can check out the story here

After its life as a product development test car, the vehicle was purchased directly from Ford, by Graham a product development employee, who worked in body and electrical engineering. Graham drove the vehicle for seven years clocking up some miles before storing it in 1983 partially covered in the weather.

The vehicle was then purchased by my father, Terry, the third owner in 1994 who also worked at Ford Australia in Body engineering and later in product development finance. You can read about the day it arrived here

In 2008 I acquired the vehicle and am now attempting to complete a conservation, That is; to rectify the rust, and body damage, repair the mechanical faults and bring it back to the road. while preserving what makes this vehicle truly unique. At this time (2022) the vehicle has not run since 1983. You can read about removing it from the “Barn” here

I do not intend to complete a full restoration because there are several unique components and history this vehicle has that may be lost in that process.

So, conservation it will be.
